Pin a Location in Maps on iPhone

To begin, launch the Apple Maps app on your iPhone. In the app, navigate to the location where you want to drop a pin.

Once you find the location, tap and hold on that location on the map.

Maps will immediately drop a pin on that location, as you can see below.

If your dropped pin’s location is not too precise, edit it by selecting “Edit Location” from the “Marked Location” menu.

You will see the satellite view of the map. Here, drag the pin to the exact point where you want it to be. Then, in the top-right corner, tap “Done.”

Your pin now represents the precise location where you wanted it. If you’d like to get directions to this location, then from the “Marked Location” section, select “Directions.”

To save your pinned location to your favorite list, pull up the “Marked Location” menu and choose “Favorite.” Similarly, to share the pin’s location with a user, tap “Share” in the menu.

You can delete the dropped pin by choosing “Remove.”

And that’s how you specify locations by dropping pins on your iPhone. Enjoy!

You can drop a pin in Google Maps, too, in case you use it alongside Apple Maps.

There are lots of scenarios where you might want to quickly share your location with a friend or family member. Many people are probably aware of how to do this via Apple or Google Maps, but there is a slick shortcut built right into iOS for this feature.

In some cases it might be fastest to type out the address you’d like to share with someone rather than dropping a pin from a maps app. However, Apple has an even faster shortcut that’s built right into the iOS QuickType keyboard suggestions.

How to quickly share your current location on iPhone

  1. Launch Messages
  2. When you’re ready to share your currently location, type “I’m at ” [make sure to hit the spacebar after at]
  3. You’ll see “Current Location” appear just above the keyboard
  4. Tap it to send your location, wait a moment before tapping a second time, it can take a bit to respond

A pin with a quick link to get directions to your location will be sent, and you don’t have to send any text with it, the “I’m at ” is just a trigger to call up the shortcut.

Alternately, you can let someone else share their current location quickly with you by asking “Where are you?” as seen below.
