Shown below are the February 2023 moon phases [or "moon schedule"]. This moon calendar is an easy tool for finding out the lunar phase for any given month. Simply select a month and year, and click "Go", and it will show you what the moon will look like for any day that month. The internal phase calculator is very accurate, but the images are approximations. The current month is always shown by default on the main moon phase calendar page [use that page for bookmarks and linking, unless you want a specific month].

The lunar phases are produced by the interaction between the movements of the sun, moon and earth. In one year the moon takes thirteen tours around the earth, ie thirteen lunations. Each lunar cycle lasts about 28 days.
Normally, we know eight types of moon phase, New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last
Quarter and Wanning Crescent. But as the moon takes about 28 days to repeat its phases, it involves not only the four above, but by infinite intermediate stages to which tradition has not named them. This is why astronomers, the moon phases relate percentage of illumination. Thus, the new moon is 0%, the full is 100%, and both are growing and shrinking 50%.

Moon Phase for Wednesday Feb 1st, 2023
The current moon phase for February 1st, 2023 is the Waxing Gibbous phase.
On this day, the moon is 10.93 days old and 86.09% illuminated with a tilt of 132.396°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 403,725.59 km and the moon sign is Gemini.
The Moon phase for February 1st, 2023 is a Waxing Gibbous phase. This is the phase where the moon is more than 50% illuminated but has not yet reached 100% illumination [which would be a Full Moon].
In the Northern Hemisphere, the right side will be illuminated, and in the Southern hemisphere it'll be the left side that is illuminated.
The Waxing Gibbous phase, like all moon phases, will last for just over 7 days. The actual length will vary because of the elliptical shaped orbit of the moon. During this Waxing Gibbous phase the moon will rise in the east in the mid- to late-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset.
Assuming it's a clear night, the Waxing Gibbous moon will then be visible through most of the night before setting just before sunrise.
Fun fact: the word Gibbous was first used in the 14th century and comes from the latin word gibbosus which means humpbacked.
