Prodigal Son picked up by Netflix

Prodigal Son was canceled by FOX after two short seasons. It was definitely disappointing for fans, but what was the reason behind the decision.

There is still a fight to save the series by fans of the show. Sadly, the search for a new home has come to an end, with many cast members moving onto other projects now. That doesnt stop us hoping that the cast could come back together even if its just for a movie to wrap up some of the questions.

That being said, fans want to know why the series was canceled in the first place. We also want to know why nobody picked up the show.

Of course, we never find out the full reasons for networks to cancel shows unless they come outright and state it. There are the usual reasons when it comes to shows being canceled by broadcast networks, andProdigal Son falls into the usual reasons.

Why was Prodigal Son canceled by FOX?

The biggest reason is the low live ratings.Prodigal Son sat 10th out of 15 scripted shows on the network in terms of the average demo. It was higher in the live audience, but its the demo that counts the most for the advertisers.

On top of that, the show lost a large percentage of its audience and demo between the first and second seasons. According toTV Series Finale, there was a 46% drop in the demo and 39% drop in the audience. These were worrying signs for the series overall.

This drop could have also translated streaming afterward. It would have been concerning enough for Hulu not to save the series immediately. Then there would have been the concern for other networks. If theres a big drop from the first to second season, there is the concern of another big drop between the second and third season and so on. Most shows do lose viewers between seasons, but the drop shouldnt be too large.
