I. Khái niệm câu mệnh lệnh
– Câu mệnh lệnh là câu có tính chất sai khiến nên còn gọi là câu cầu khiến. Một người ra lệnh hoặc yêu cầu cho một người khác làm một việc gì đó. Nó thường theo sau bởi từ please.
– Chủ ngữ của câu mệnh lệnh được ngầm hiểu là you.
– Luôn dùng dạng thức nguyên thể [không có to] của động từ trong câu mệnh lệnh.
– Câu mệnh lệnh chia làm 2 loại: Trực tiếp và gián tiếp.
II. Phân loại câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu
1. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu trực tiếp
a. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu thông dụng
Khi muốn người nghe thực hiện một hành động nào đó, chúng ta dùng một động từ nguyên thể mà không cần chủ ngữ. Dạng câu này là phổ biến nhất trong các dạng câu yêu cầu, mệnh lệnh và thường được lên giọng ở cuối câu.
Ví dụ:
It’s cold, put some more clothes on and turn off the fan.
b. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu có đối tượng chỉ định
Ở dạng câu phía trên, chủ ngữ là được ngầm hiểu là người nghe. Dạng câu đầy đủ của nó là một câu yêu cầu có đối tượng chỉ định. Chúng ta chỉ cần chỉ rõ đối tượng của mệnh lệnh là ai.
c. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu với từ Do
Câu yêu cầu với trợ động từ “do” mang ý nghĩa nhấn mạnh vào hành động. Cấu trúc câu tương đối đơn giản, bạn chỉ cần dùng “do” với một động từ nguyên thể.
Ví dụ:
Do make sure you prepare the materials and finish your homework before the next class.
d. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu với từ Please
Để câu cầu khiến không bị nặng nề và lịch sự hơn, chúng ta có thể sử dụng từ “please” ở đầu hoặc cuối câu. “Please” có nghĩa là “làm ơn”, thường được sử dụng khi bạn muốn yêu cầu một người lạ hoặc có vai vế cao hơn mình.
e. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu dạng nghi vấn/câu hỏi
Khi đưa ra mệnh lệnh, người nói thường có xu hướng đặt câu yêu cầu dạng câu hỏi để đặt bớt áp lực lên người nghe. Các động từ tình thái như Can, Could, May thường được sử dụng trong dạng câu này. Ngoài ra, các trợ động từ như Would, Will cũng được dùng phổ biến để tăng mức độ lịch sự.
g. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu ở dạng phủ định
Đây là dạng tương tự như câu yêu cầu thông dụng với động từ nguyên thể, nhưng người nói không muốn người nghe làm điều gì đó.
2. Câu mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu gián tiếp
a. Câu mệnh lệnh gián tiếp dạng khẳng định
Câu tường thuật mang nghĩa yêu cầu, đề nghị thường sử dụng các động từ như “ask”, “tell”, “order”. Tân ngữ trong dạng câu này thường được xác định rõ ràng.
Công thức:
S + ask/tell/order + O + to V
b. Câu mệnh lệnh gián tiếp dạng phủ định
Cấu trúc câu yêu cầu, mệnh lệnh ở dạng phủ định chỉ khác câu khẳng định ở chỗ cần thêm từ “not” vào đằng sau tân ngữ.
Công thức chung:
S + ask/tell/order + O + not + to V
3. Câu mệnh lệnh với let
Dạng câu này thường được dùng khi tân ngữ hay đối tượng được yêu cầu, ra lệnh trong câu không phải người nghe mà là một người khác.

III. Cấu trúc câu mệnh lệnh
1. Cấu trúc câu mệnh lệnh ở ngôi thứ nhất
– Câu mệnh lệnh với ngôi thứ nhất được dùng để thuyết phục người nghe thực hiện một hành động gì đó cùng người nói hoặc để đưa ra một gợi ý.
– Với ngôi thứ nhất, khi sử dụng câu mệnh lệnh ta sẽ dùng cấu trúc Let’s…
– Câu khẳng định:
Let us [Let’s] + V – infinitive
– Câu phủ định
Let us [Let’s] + not + V – infinitive
2. Cấu trúc câu mệnh lệnh ở ngôi thứ hai
– Câu khẳng định:
V – infinitive
– Câu phủ định
Do + not + V – infinitive
Lưu ý:
– Trong câu mệnh lệnh với ngôi thứ hai, chủ ngữ ít được đề cập đến nhưng có thể gắn một danh từ cuối cụm từ.
– Đại từ “YOU” tuy ít được sử dụng nhưng nó vẫn xuất hiện để thể hiện thái độ thô lỗ.
3. Cấu trúc câu mệnh lệnh ở ngôi thứ ba
– Câu khẳng định:
Let + Object + V – infinitive
– Câu phủ định
Let + Object + not + V – infinitive
