Tactics for Listening là tài liệu luyện IELTS Listening, gồm 3 cuốn với các cấp độ: Basic – Developing – Expanding do Oxford University Press xuất bản.
Sách cung cấp các bài nghe gồm nhiều chủ đề khác nhau, giúp nâng cao kỹ năng nghe câu từ trong nhiều hoàn cảnh giao tiếp khác nhau. Với mỗi cuốn, tác giả thiết kế bài học theo tiêu chuẩn khó dần giúp các bạn tự luyện tập dễ dàng hơn, tương ứng với các cấp độ sau:
➨ Basic: Sách cơ bản dành cho người mới bắt đầu từ 1.0 trở lên.
➨ Developing: Sách dành cho các bạn ở trình độ trung cấp từ 3.0 -3.5 trở lên.
➨ Expanding: Sách dành cho các bạn nâng cao hơn trình độ, từ 4.0 trở lên.

2. Giới thiệu về sách IELTS Tactics for Listening Basic
Đây là cuốn sách cơ bản đầu tiên đúng như tên gọi của nó. Quyển sách sẽ cung cấp cho bạn:
➨ Sách bao gồm 24 Unit với các bài học nhỏ theo chủ đề chính
➨ Chủ đề quen thuộc trong bài như Name, Spelling, Family, People, Clothes, Time, Dates…
Trong cuốn Basic Tactics for Listening, học sinh sẽ thực hành nghe nhiều cách nói khác nhau: nói chuyện thân mật, hướng dẫn, chỉ đường, yêu cầu, mô tả, xin lỗi và gợi ý. Những kỹ năng nghe cần thiết được thực hành xuyên suốt bài học.
Những kỹ năng này bao gồm việc nghe những từ then chốt, những chi tiết và ý chính; nghe và rút ra kết luận; nghe những quan điểm; nghe câu hỏi và trả lời; nghe, nhận biết và nắm bắt thông tin.
Mỗi bài [Unit] trong sách gồm có 5 phần. Phần đầu tiên Getting Ready giới thiệu đề tài của bài học và những từ vựng cần thiết cho các phần luyện nghe trong bài. Ba phần tiếp theo là Let’s Listen, gồm các bài đàm thoại và độc thoại được ghi vào băng hoặc đĩa. Ba phần này cung cấp phần thực hành nghe theo cấp độ từ dễ đến khó.
Học sinh sẽ nghe những bài thoại này rồi làm các phần bài tập như điền vào chỗ trống, trả lời câu hỏi, chọn hoặc ghép hình, v.v. Cuối cùng là phần Over to You, một hoạt động nói liên quan đến đề tài và các bài tập nghe trong bài. Hoạt động này cho phép học sinh tổng hợp và thực hành các kỹ năng nghe nói mà họ đã học.
3. Cách học IELTS Tactics for listening
3.1. Luyện nghe thường xuyên
Mỗi ngày, bạn nên dành thời gian ít nhất 1 tiếng để luyện nghe. Không một “phương pháp thần kỳ” nào có thể giúp bạn nghe tốt hơn nếu như bạn không nghe tiếng Anh thường xuyên.
Việc luyện nghe chăm chỉ kết hợp với lộ trình học hợp lý sẽ giúp bạn đạt điểm IELTS Listening như mong đợi. Bạn có thể tham khảo lộ trình học IELTS Listening tại đây.
3.2. Nghe đúng trình độ của mình
Nếu bạn nghe chưa tốt và muốn luyện nghe để nhanh tiến bộ, hãy nghe những bài có độ khó phù hợp với trình độ của mình. Khi bạn đã cảm thấy thoải mái với những bài nghe đơn giản rồi, hãy tiếp tục thử thách mình với những bài nghe khó hơn.
Ngược lại, nếu bạn nghe chưa tốt nhưng lại cố chọn nghe những bài quá khó, điều đó sẽ không giúp bạn cải thiện nhiều, thậm chỉ còn khiến bạn tự ti, chán nản. Nhắc lại, quyển Tactics for Listening Basic phù hợp với trình độ 1.0 – 3.0, dùng cho học sinh đã học tiếng Anh nhưng cần thực hành thêm để có thể hiểu được ngôn ngữ đàm thoại đơn giản.
