It's really confusing. Some people say it is the multiplayer component of GTA V. But Rockstar North's president says "its not part of GTA V. Obviously it's set in the same engine, but its going to grow and evolve into its own thing." So can someone tell me, which is correct????

Gta online is its own separate game, but is bundled with gta v. What rockstar is trying to pitch is that we should treat gta online as its own entity, rather than some tacked on half assed multiplayer mode.
If you think about it, it truly is its own game, similar to an mmorpg. It's a wierd concept to grasp but once it releases it will make sense.
level 2
With 16 players max though.
level 1
Remember Metal Gear Online? It'll be like that, using the same engine and map, but launched through a different 'game'.
level 1
Both are correct. It IS apart of GTAV. It is simply the multiplayer aspect of the game. But what they are trying to say is that it is much more complex than your traditional multiplayer, and is basically it's own game. It will grow and grow over the years, and be a part of future installments as well. Rockstar is really just sugar coating it, and kind of making it confusing for some people when it really is simple.
level 1
It its own seperate entity, it will be free to play with the purchase of GTAV. which makes me think it will be available for purchase on its own or free to play. Therefore, opening the question to micro transactions for the multiplayer. Personally I would be happy to support the multiplayer with larger dlc instead of micro transactions. What do you guys think.
level 2
Rockstar has said it will not be available for seperate purchase. It will be played on the same disc as GTAV, and it will be a title update. So it is part of GTAV, but they will have different teams supporting each, as with any game with Singleplayer and multiplayer.
level 1
I'm guessing it will come as a 2 disc set on the 360 similar to Max Payne on 3 discs, although all 2 od the discs were entirely dedicated to campaign.. I'm not sure but that would be my best guess.
level 2
Lol wait, three disks?!? Seriously?
level 2
No it doesn't, it just says gta online.
level 2
No, it is not. It is a separate part of the series. Sure, it comes along with GTA V but it is not a component of GTA V. It will exist long after GTA V is followed by GTA VI.
These are the plans of Rockstar. Whether it will be the case is what is to be seen.

R* are gonna be supporting the game[GTA Online] for years and years to come. This includes MMO sized expansion packs that will include other areas like Liberty City, Vice City, San Fierro and Las Venturas. Titanfall - Best Call of Duty Game - GamesRadar, E3 2013 |

JimiMorrison187 9 years ago#8 They have to be putting this onto the PS4 then don't they? Seems like a waste to make these kinds of plans for this gen doesn't it? All those expansions going to come out within a year, or are they going to take a lot longer? Are they split up like separate episodes like the GTA IV episodes, or does the map continue to grow with transport within the game to the other areas? I assume these are going to be loading screens from area to area, but are tehy going to be separate "episodes" on the start menu, or all can be accessed in the Freeroam? because f*** you is why |
CADE_FOSTER 9 years ago#9 lol gta online is looking like it could be pretty pricey when alls said and done |
