Can Buffet copper peptides 1% contain vitamin C?

Clique aqui para português.

I was really happy when I saw that DECIEM had released their new serum with copper peptides. I placed an order on the same day since I had run out of my Copper Amino Isolate Serum 2:1, which has 2% of copper peptides.

Description

This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once. The technologies are direct Copper Peptides, also known as GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide-1), Matrixyl 3000 peptide complex (with palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7), Matrixyl synthe’6 peptide complex (with palmitoyl tripeptide-38), SYN-AKE peptide complex (with dipeptide diaminobutyroyl benzylamide diacetate), Relistase peptide complex (with acetylarginyltryptophyl diphenylglycine), ARGIRELOX peptide complex (with acetyl hexapeptide-8, pentapeptide-18) and a Probiotic complex (with Lactococcus lactis lysate), solubilized in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acids and multiple forms of hyaluronic acid.

The “Buffet” + Copper Peptides 1% formula differs from our original “Buffet” as this formula includes a 1% concentration of pure Copper Peptides, increasing its focus on overall skin health. The natural role of these peptides as found in human plasma includes supporting a wide range of skin health functions like maintaining normal immune function, collagen synthesis, fibroblast production and anti-inflammatory responses. The inclusion of Copper Peptides offers a natural blue tint to the formula. The total concentration of active technologies in this formula is 26.1%.

Analysis of some ingredients

Glycerin: Helps to moisturize the skin;

Lactococcus Ferment Lysate: A probiotic complex that might improve the health of the skin;

Copper Tripeptide-1 (1%): Studies directed by Borel and Maquart et al. demonstrated that GHK-Cu at a very low, non-toxic concentration stimulated both synthesis and breakdown of collagen and glycosaminoglycans.

A GHK-Cu facial cream reduced visible signs of aging. The cream improved skin laxity, clarity, appearance, reduced fine lines, the depth of wrinkles, and increased skin density and thickness.

A GHK-Cu eye cream was compared to a placebo control and an eye cream containing vitamin K. The GHK-Cu cream performed better than both controls in terms of reducing lines and wrinkles, improving overall appearance, and increasing skin density and thickness.

In another 12-week facial study, a GHK-Cu cream was applied twice daily and improved skin laxity, clarity, firmness, and appearance, reduced fine lines, coarse wrinkles and mottled pigmentation, and increased skin density, and thickness. The cream also strongly stimulated dermal keratinocyte proliferation as determined by the histological analysis of biopsies.

These placebo-controlled studies demonstrated that GHK-Cu skin creams had the following effects:

  • Tighten loose skin and improve elasticity.

  • Improve skin density and firmness.

  • Reduce fine lines and deep wrinkles.

  • Improve skin clarity.

  • Reduce photodamage and mottled hyperpigmentation.

  • Strongly increase keratinocyte proliferation.

GHK peptide as a natural modulator of multiple cellular pathways in skin regeneration;

Effect of Gly-Gly-His, Gly-His-Lys and their copper complexes on TNF-alpha-dependent IL-6 secretion in normal human dermal fibroblasts;

Effects of copper tripeptide on the growth and expression of growth factors by normal and irradiated fibroblasts;

Effects of topical creams containing vitamin C, a copper-binding peptide cream, and melatonin compared with on the ultrastructure of normal skin – A pilot clinical, histologic, and ultrastructural study;

The tripeptide-copper complex glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine-Cu2+ stimulates matrix metalloproteinase-2 expression by fibroblast cultures.

Argirelox Peptide Complex (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 + Pentapeptide-18): A complex composed of Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) plus Pentapeptide-18 (Leuphasyl). An oil/water emulsion containing 10% of the hexapeptide Argireline on healthy women volunteers reduced wrinkle depth up to 30% upon 30 days treatment.

A synthetic hexapeptide (Argireline) with antiwrinkle activity.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1: It might have effects on collagen, and skin pigment. It’s still under investigation;

Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7: This is an ingredient developed by Sederma and marketed as Rigin™. “The ability of Rigin™ to down-regulate IL-6 was compared to DHEA in vitro in both resting and inflamed cells and the two actives were comparable. Marketing materials related to Rigin™ indicate that this reduction in IL-6 can produce increased skin firmness, smoothness, and elasticity.”

Bioactive peptides: signaling the future.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 (Matrixyl Synthe’6): This peptide is supposed to increase the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin. There isn’t much research validating this claim.

Cosmetic composition for increasing hyaluronic acid synthesis in skin and its use for repairing wrinkles.

Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate (Syn™-Ake): It functions in a manner similar to Waglerin 1, a neuromuscular blocking compound found in the venom of the Temple Viper. It’s supposed to relax the muscle;

Acetylarginyltryptophyl Diphenylglycine (Relistase): A tripeptide that is supposed to inhibit elastase (an enzyme that digests elastin) and improve collagen synthesis. There isn’t any independent study available;

Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer and Sodium Hyaluronate: Two forms of hyaluronates to hydrate and plump the skin;

Allantoin: It has skin soothinghealing and keratolytic (ability to remove excess of skin) properties. It enables the skin to absorb more moisture;

Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid: A complex of 11 amino acids that is supposed to improve skin’s health;

Trehalose, Fructose, Glucose, Maltose: A complex of 4 moisturizing sugars;

Urea: moisturizer agent (when in high concentrations, it exfoliates the skin);

Sodium PCA and PCA: Draw moisture from the environment.

CosDNA analysis.

Packaging

A bottle containing a dropper, like most of The Ordinary‘s bottles.

Can Buffet copper peptides 1% contain vitamin C?

It contains 30 mL of product.

Texture and scent

It has a jelly texture that is easily absorbed by my skin. When being spread, the texture turns into water.

Its scent is kinda weird. It’s got a faint scent of vinegar with blood (ew) that disappears really fast. It doesn’t bother me at any point.

How to use

DECIEM suggests applying this product right after washing your face and giving a 30 seconds wait for the next step.

Performance

Different from NIOD‘s Copper Serum, that has a water-like texture and is absorbed right away, this one has a more hydrating, jelly texture that doesn’t absorb instantly but doesn’t take too long.

In this case, having an almost gel-like texture means that a little goes a long way. Two drops are enough to cover my entire face, and three drops cover my face and neck.

Since this product has a low price point (it’s around 28 dollars), I definitely don’t feel guilty for using it on my neck and chest (differently from NIOD‘s Copper Serum).

I’ve been using this serum for 7 weeks, and since I’m only 22-year-old, I can’t tell I’ve seen improvements on wrinkles because I’ve got none. However, I can tell you that it does help a lot with redness. Whenever I do my weekly exfoliation, I do it harshly to the point that sometimes I get red. When I apply this serum after exfoliating, in a manner of moments my face calms down divinely. If you check the reviews of both NIOD and The Ordinary copper serums on DECIEM website you will see that some people relate the same (and lots of other people saying they saw improvement on wrinkles).

Final thoughts

I love everything about this product. The texture, the price, the ingredient list, the benefits… Talking about benefits, I believe this product will work very well on rosacea or flushed skin. Talk to your doctor about that.

I already repurchased a second bottle and I’ll keep using it for a long time.

FYI, one bottle lasted me around 2 months, using three drops twice a day (sometimes I used to use four drops). So if you’re planning on using it once a day, you can expect it to last you around 4 or more months.
