  1. Mark Lawrenson takes on actor and Crystal Palace fan Jim Piddock in the latest round of Premier League predictions.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Brentford lost at Leicester before the international break but the two wins they got before that mean they have some breathing space above the bottom three.

I'm not surprised Ivan Toney has started scoring again now Christian Eriksen is in the Bees team, because he must be a joy for any striker to play with. It sounds simple but Eriksen puts the ball where the player wants it and the chances he creates means they will win plenty more games too.

Not this one, though. Chelsea have hit a decent bit of form despite everything that is happening at the club off the field and their forwards have started scoring again too.

    Jim's prediction: 1-0

Chelsea wing-back Reece James has recovered from a muscle problem but Callum Hudson-Odoi remains sidelined.

Andreas Christensen, Saul Niguez and Kepa Arrizabalaga are also back in contention after missing the Blues' last game.

Josh Dasilva returns for Brentford after completing a three-match ban.

Boss Thomas Frank says the Bees have no new fitness concerns, though Julian Jeanvier is a long-term absentee.

Thomas Tuchel says there is nothing Chelsea can do about transfer speculation regarding their top players because of the current sanctions imposed on the club.

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta and fellow defender Antonio Rudiger have both been linked with a move to Barcelona, while reports have suggested striker Romelu Lukaku is still unhappy at Stamford Bridge.

"It's impossible to plan [for next season]," said Tuchel. "That's why we don't do it.

"We focus on what we have right now and we focus on our next matches, so maybe it is an advantage and we cannot get distracted - and we'll deal with the disadvantage later, when hopefully things are clear."

Lukaku said in an interview broadcast by Sky Sport Italia in December he was "not happy with the situation" under Tuchel, but stressed he would "not give up" trying to regain a place in the German's starting XI.

"Romelu still plays a big part in our plans - maybe not the part that maybe he wants to play, I totally understand it.

"But he used his time to also disconnect a little bit. He had one week of holiday and then he came back to us. He's very motivated in training, very much involved when we do the games.

"He is a winner and he will stay a winner - and he will stay important for us."

  4. Thomas Tuchel has been speaking to media as Chelsea prepare to face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Here are the key lines from the Blues boss:

    • Tuchel confirmed Callum Hudson-Odoi has lower back problems so will miss the game against Brentford. Ben Chilwell is also still on the sidelines. Reece James is "ready to go" and in the squad for tomorrow.

    • On the international break, he said: "It's always a challenge to come back after these breaks around the world. Some played a lot and are jet-lagged."

    • He said he knew about Cesar Azpilicueta's contract extension and the confusion surrounding it: "It's a good thing - we were are aware of it. He has a contract and he's our captain. High probability he will stay. We need to make him stay and extend his contract. It's very good news for us."

    • On the future of Antonio Rudiger and the rumours around the defender's agent meeting Barcelona, Tuchel said: "I would try to meet him if I was at another club. The situation is the situation. Our hands are tied. Fair enough - if it's true - if he listens to other offers."

    • On the four bidders looking to takeover at Stamford Bridge: "I don't think I could tell you the names. It's my information it's down to four. In the next few weeks, it should be down to further negotiations."

    • Tuchel joked that "maybe it's best if I'm involved as little as possible" when the question is asked about whether he will meet the candidates.

    • The German boss is keen for fans to create atmosphere against Brentford, given the club could not sell tickets. "From a team perspective, it would be prefect to have all the supporters there to support us. We need our spectators because if we are a little bit less, they will need to compensate for those that are missing."

    • He said the five substitutes rule was a "brilliant decision" and "absolutely necessary to protect the players".

    • On rumours of Romelu Lukaku's future with the club: "We don't reflect on it. We can't talk to players and cannot buy, so in this moment we don't need to think about it."

Premier League stars Kieran Tierney, John McGinn and Billy Gilmour head a five-strong shortlist for the Scottish Football Writers’ Association top international player.

Scotland have gone eight games’ unbeaten since September 2021 and are scheduled to play their World Cup play-off semi-final against Ukraine in June.

Aston Villa’s McGinn has won the award for the past two years and captained his country against Poland last week.

Arsenal defender Tierney scored his first goal for Scotland against Poland last week, while 20-year-old Gilmour, who is on loan at Norwich from Chelsea, has been a consistent performer.

QPR striker Lyndon Dykes and Hearts keeper Craig Gordon complete the list.

    • Chelsea are unbeaten in their past eight meetings with Brentford in all competitions [W7 D1], since a 3-1 home loss in February 1939.

    • This is Brentford’s first visit to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since a 4-0 defeat in the 2016-17 FA Cup fourth round. This will be the Bees’ first away league game against the Blues since November 1946 – a 3-2 defeat.

    • Chelsea have won six of their seven Premier League London derbies this season, with the exception being a 3-2 loss at West Ham. That defeat is the only time Chelsea have conceded in a London derby this campaign.

    • Having kept two clean sheets and conceded just one goal in their first three Premier League away games, Brentford have now conceded in each of their past 12 on the road – the longest current run without an away clean sheet in the competition.

The Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast is back and Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have been chewing over the best players never to win a Premier League title, with two former Chelsea stars making the list.

Gianfranco Zola: 3rd Shearer, 6th Richards

Zola scored 76 goals in 302 appearances for the Blues and Shearer was blown away by his ability.

"He was silky smooth as a footballer," he said. "Such an unbelievable player who had everything.

"I've also never met anyone who has a bad word to say about him."

Fernando Torres: 5th Richards, 7th Shearer

"I played against him and wow, I couldn't get near him," said Richards. "He was strong, fast, intelligent and he could finish. He had everything."

But Shearer added: "He still won the FA Cup, the Champions League, the Europa League. It wasn't bad!"

We have been asking you for your end-of-season predictions. Here are some of your views:

Dariell: Liverpool only pick up 17 of their final 27 points and City only pick up 16 of their final 27 points as they both finish with 86 points. However, Chelsea win their rest of the games, 30 out of 30, with 89 points. Also winning the Champions League and FA Cup.

Douglas: Well, I should say thank you for the Champions League final mention, although I think we're going to win the rest of our matches this season based on our form. But I think Will [16:58, 23 March] has got a good prediction, so well done on that. Let's just hope we don't end up fifth [unlikely to happen].

Marko: Love this club! Been supporting the real Blues since 1965 through the bad, very bad and great times. Would love the miracle of winning the Premier League this year but, alas, I think it's asking too much, so third place. UCL has been great at last for Chelsea and I see them retaining the trophy with yet another win over City. The FA Cup, not this year! KTBFFH...
