Just like all brands, there are good apples and bad ones. Such is the case of Kat Von D Lock It Powder Foundation, a product that I hoped will live up to the iconic Lock It liquid foundation. Truth be told, I love the coverage, but there are some things that I wish would be fixed. Oh, let me just muse below!

Ingredients

Lock It Powder Foundation is a medium to full coverage powder foundation with KVD's long- lasting, lock it technology. It comes in a variety of shades, although not as extensive as the liquid foundation.

As for the packaging, no doubt, it's gorgeous because Mother KVD puts a lot of effort into designing her packaging. Embossed stencil roses with a 3D logo of the brand resting in the middle give the good ol' black packaging a chic gothic appeal.

The compact has a compartment for the sponge, a feature that I've always loved in powder foundation compacts. The sponge is soft, feels sturdy, and has no rubbery odor.

The shade I got is Medium 54; it's a shade darker than my skin tone, which was odd because it looked perfect on me when I swatched it in Sephora; must be the trickster lighting. The shades tend to lean on the warmer side too. The powder is unscented, coverage is medium to full, and texture is fine and semi- creamy.

Here's Medium 54 on me. It's pink- toned, which made it look darker than what it actually is; it didn't work well with my yellow undertone. But props to the coverage, it instantly covers any imperfection even with no concealer and gives skin a fresh, matte canvas.

TBJ TIP: This powder is best applied using a semi-fluffy or flat top kabuki brush.

The staying power is my problem. It's supposed to be "Lock It", but my skin would get oily in just 2 hours and it's the slick kind of oily. Not what I expected from a line that has the best long- lasting face base in my opinion.

I therefore conclude that Kat Von D's Lock It powder products need more work, especially in the staying power category; after all, it's called Lock It. My experience with Lock It loose powder is okay at best. But Lock It Powder Foundation is not totally hate-able; I love the coverage and finish, but the staying power needs to be improved by a huge lot. If the staying power issue gets resolved, I wouldn't mind repurchasing!

The only shortcoming of this powder foundation is the lackluster wear time. Because of the thinner, lighter texture, the formulation does not keep oil at bay. Within a couple of hours, my T-zone started to look shiny. The pigments also faded pretty significantly by the end of the day so if you are wearing this alone, be prepared to touch up throughout the day to maintain coverage. "

Fair 115

" a very pale ivory with a slight warm undertone and "

Light 125

" is neutral light ivory. See below for a before and after comparison of "Light 125" on my face.

Overall, the Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation is a winner in my book! The blurring, high-coverage formulation looks just flawless on the skin and although the wear time is not great, it's a worthy tradeoff for a lightweight, non-cakey finish.

What skin type is powder foundation best for?

This will let your own skin shine through, and makes for a more natural look. Since it is dry, powder foundation is also a good choice for those with oily skin, and/or acne-prone skin as it will absorb extra oil (it is also beneficial for sensitive skin).

Is powder foundation worth it?

Powder foundations are ideal for oily, combination skin or those who like a matte finish. Also, powder foundations are also the easiest and quickest formulas to apply. If you are a beginner or time-challenged, go for powder. Expert on all things hair and makeup.

Does KVD powder have talc?

INGREDIENTS. Talc, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Isopropyl Isostearate, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Tocopherol, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499).

Does powder foundation accentuate wrinkles?

Sadly, also yes. Since our skin naturally becomes increasingly dry and dehydrated as we get older, a powder foundation only makes things worse. It settles into all of your fine lines, and the matte texture finish instantly ages you.
