The iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 will also be getting the axe, along with the iPod touch, when iOS 16 drops later this fall, leaving the iPhone 8 as the oldest still-supported handset. Once marked as obsolete, Apple will stop providing certain repairs for the iPhone 5c and may depend on part availability. As per a report in MacRumours, the tech giant will be marking the iPhone 5c, which was announced in September 2013, as obsolete on November 1. This will end all repairs and services to the smartphone. According to a memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple marked the iPhone 5c as a vintage product in October 2020, which meant the company and its service providers could only provide certain repairs for the product, subject to part availability. Apart from this, Apple also plans to make more products by the company obsolete. The iPhone 5c was the first to be offered in a series of bright and vibrant colours, including blue, green, pink, yellow, and white, in an "unapologetically plastic" design. It also marked the first time Apple had released a lower-end iPhone model aimed at budget-conscious customers, with pricing for the 16GB model starting at $99 with a two-year contract in the US. Meanwhile, other reports suggest that Apple is planning to introduce the fourth-generation of the iPhone SE with a 6.1-inch LCD and a notch cutout on the screen. The latest claim has been made by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young according to a report on MacRumours. Besides, new leaks also suggested that the device will sport a look similar to the iPhone XR. The analyst told the tech portal that Apple is planning to unveil the new iPhone SE model in 2023 with the upgraded 6.1-inch display and a hole-shaped cutout that will feature the front camera. Apple are once again warning users that older iPhone models will become obsolete in the near future, making them nearly impossible to maintain or even repair. This is part of the typical push to move people to newer phones. This means inevitably having to upgrade. This being said if your running an older ‘vintage model’ such as the iPhone 6 chances are you’re already holding on. Typically, devices this old do start experiencing ware and take or just general performance issues as the apps and software need more hardware power to operate. Kind of like trying to run new software on an old PC, it just doesn’t work well. In the majority of cases, its battery issues unless you’ve upgraded your battery. This means any phones introduced in 2016 or earlier, including the iPhone 6S, iPhone SE and iPhone 7, won't be getting Apple software updates anymore. It's not an unexpected move, given that the company regularly retires software support on older devices.
