New Toyota Innova 2023

New Toyota Innova 2023

In anticipation of the launch of the upcoming 2023 Toyota Innova, the Japanese automaker has released another teaser to further build up hype for the vehicle. While the first teaser image only showcased the front of the car hinting at its more SUV-like styling, this new one shows off the new Innova’s side profile. This time around the photo also comes with the caption “The new energy is coming” hinting at the new Innova being released as a hybrid vehicle.

True enough, if you look closely at the photo you will see Toyota’s standard “Hybrid” badge on the front quarter panel of the vehicle. While the teaser image does showcase the new Toyota Innova’s set of character lines on the side with a higher roof line and more pronounced fenders, not much else can be seen.

However, the hybrid badging does confirm that Toyota will be releasing the new Innova as a hybrid vehicle. This means that it could be goodbye to the two diesel engines that the 7-seater MPV originally came with.

While there are no official details yet as to what the new hybrid powerplant will be in the 2023 Toyota Innova, reports are indicating that it could be a 2.0-liter motor paired with a hybrid system. Moreover, the introduction of the new hybrid powerplant could also signal a platform change which means that the Innova will no longer share the same underpinnings as the Toyota Hilux and Toyota Fortuner. Instead, the new 7-seater MPV might change to a unibody chassis and shift to the brand’s new TNGA platform. It also means a possible goodbye to its rear-wheel drive layout and perhaps hello to a front-wheel drive setup.

Toyota has yet to drop a confirmed date for the launch of the new Innova, however, we suspect that it will reveal the 7-seater MPV very soon given that it already has been dropping teaser images for it. We expect the all-new Toyota Innova to launch sometime in the latter half of November.

  • 2023 Toyota Innova Hycross to look like this; Official launch on 24 November 2023 Toyota Innova Hycros...

While the anticipation for the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross was already there in the market for a long time, it hit a new high when Toyota itself confirmed that it is coming in November 2022 with an official teaser image on its social media handles. The new Innova Hycross is said to be a radical departure from the current-gen Toyota Innova Crysta in terms of mechanicals under the skin while having a more modern design inside-out. While the MPV is yet to break its covers, we have come across a digital rendering by TopGear Philippines that hints at how the Innova Hycross will look like.

New Toyota Innova 2023

These new digital renderings of the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross look very much inspired by the compact Toyota Veloz sold in South-East Asian countries, making it look bolder and more aggressive than the Innova Crysta. At the front, these digital renderings show that the Innova Hycross will come with a trapezoidal grille, with lesser cluttered sides. While the headlamps here look sharper, the front bumper gets an aggressive design with triangular inserts on the corners. The fog lamps at the front are integrated into the corners of the lower air dam.

The side profile of these digital renderings of the Toyota Innova Hycross looks different with triangular rear quarter glasses, while it also has slightly squared wheel arches with body cladding over them. The door panels also get prominent creases over them, though we are not sure if the production version of the MPV will have them or not. At the back too, these renderings show that the Innova Hycross will get a heavily-redesigned boot lid with two-part combination LED tail lamps on the lower corners of the rear windscreen.

Hybrid powertrain

While it is not clear whether the new Innova Hycross will retain the design highlights of these digital renderings, Toyota has hinted that the new version of the Innova will have some radical changes under the skin. Touted to be based on the TNGA platform, the new Innova Hycross will get a monocoque construction for the first time, a huge departure from the ladder-on-frame construction of the Innova Crysta.

Another big change in the new Toyota Innova Hycross, as compared to the Innova Crysta, is the replacement of the 2.4-litre diesel engine with an all-new petrol-hybrid powertrain. The new Innova Hycross will be a petrol-only MPV, with it having a petrol-hybrid powertrain based around a 1.8-litre Atkinson petrol engine under its hood. It is the same engine which is available in the hybrid versions of the Corolla Altis and Corolla Cross in overseas markets.
