The Ordinary glycolic acid hair Reddit

After accidentally clicking on it once on my insta For You page a few days ago, I feel like I've been inundated with "you absolutely have to try this!" posts about putting TO Glycolic Acid on your scalp for shiny hair and a healthy scalp. Has anyone actually tried this? How did it turn out for you?

Or, for anyone that hasn't but has more chemistry knowledge than I do, is this a good recommendation? I have fine but dense hair and occasionally struggle with dry/flaky scalp and am wondering if this could be beneficial/what hair types it would be beneficial for.

So it was a friend's birthday the other day, and I was three-drinks-too-many when I got home.

I have TO's Glycolic Toner with a spray cap - I use it as a twice weekly body exfoliator (it's absolutely superb for that, and a 1/4 the price of body equivalent versions).

So after a shower, I accidentally picked up that instead of my normal hair leave-in conditioner...

And after dousing my hair, and realising as the smell wafted to my nostrils, I thought screw it, I'm falling asleep, I'll wash it off in the morning.

And I did, and washed it in the morning. And my hair was glorious when it dried. I did a bit a Googling, and apparently glycolic acid is actually now a Hot New Thing in high end $60+ haircare and salon treatments.

So there's a cheap option for you...

(YMMV of course... don't shout at me if it all goes wrong!)

Thank you for posting. Please be aware that you can ask Deciem for regimens and advice. Be careful with acids- overuse can lead to over exfoliation. Make sure you use sunscreen daily. To ensure authenticity, order through Deciem or one of their approved stockists- we are no longer accepting "Is this fake?" posts these will be removed. I have been having this very flaky dandruff (like literally you can see it’s dead skin) on the crown of my head and the front. Had it for over 6 years and I have tried a lot of anti dandruff shampoos, serums, medicated shampoos etc but nothing ever worked completely. (even doc prescribed ones didn’t work fully)

Recently I’ve seen too many posts about how TO’s Glycolic Acid toner got rid of dandruff for many people and wanted to try it out. I’m not in a position to consult a dermatologist (atleast not for 3 months) so I just want to know a few things about it. I’ve never tried TO’s products ever but was told this is like HG for scalp related issues. I wanna know if it’ll have any kinda effect on hard water/ using it along with iluvia hard water shampoo. And does it actually decrease the dandruff or is it just marketing tactics TT Also will it damage hair strength and how frequently should one use it.

Thanks in advance, A noob in skin+hair care

Edit: changed back to front cuz i forgot the crown was at the back lol

Hello all! It is my first post on here. For the past couple of months I’ve been dealing with oily hair after the first day of washing. Before I used to go three days each wash.

I finally decided to try the glycolic acid on my scalp (shampoo my hair after 20 mins) and honestly, I haven’t seen much change. My hair is still oily on the second day. I’ve only done it twice so far, so maybe I have to continually doing so?

Has anyone else tried this? How did it treat your hair, and did it tackle your hair issues? Some shared experiences and advice would be great, thank you!

P.S. currently using the VERB hydrating shampoo and conditioner, it is sulfate and parabens free.

I waited a few months just to be sure and I'm so happy that my dandruff and itchy scalp are finally gone. I won't make this a blog post about my "journey" and will simply tell you that it was a 15 minute mask of glycolic acid by The Ordinary from Sephora. It's very cheap and has a useful applicator nozzle for putting it on your scalp. It's marketed as a daily face toner but I read something online about how it doubles as a deodorant and dandruff killer.

Just don't let it get in your eyes and shampoo it out afterwards. I did two treatments over two weeks.

I did this for my itchy scalp. I wash my hair with shampoo once or twice a week, it was getting itchy on day 2 and I had a lot of dandruff. I did it only twice many months ago, and haven't done it since. It worked wonders on the itchiness and dandruff. I plan to do it if the itchiness comes back. I don't know about doing it on a regular basis because the effect lasted for months (up until now) for me. Also, in summer & sunny days, watch out for the sun during the day, wear hats, scarves etc to protect your scalp from burning.

Can the ordinary glycolic acid be used on hair?

Does glycolic acid damage hair?

Long-term use of glycolic acid can weaken the hair and cause hair loss,” says Dr Bakhtiar. “In my opinion, the use of it should be limited to once or twice a week and, after that, intermittently. However, this will depend on the amount of glycolic acid in the product or formulation you're using.”

Can glycolic acid remove dandruff?

For dandruff sufferers, glycolic acid scalp and hair care products are the ultimate in reducing dandruff for one hyper effective reason: superior exfoliation. “Exfoliation is essential for keeping the hair and scalp in top condition.
