The Blacklist season 8 episode 22 promo

For seven seasons and over 150 episodes, The Blacklist saw James Spader’s Raymond Reddington enjoy a tense but useful relationship with the FBI’s Elizabeth Keen [Megan Boone] as they worked together to bring down some of the world’s nastiest criminals.

Season 8 saw that all change, however, as Liz and Red ended up on opposite sides of the divide, leading to arguably one of the best seasons yet.

But following June 16th’s nail-biting instalment, fans of The Blacklist have been left anxiously waiting for episode 22.

The Blacklist season 8 recap

Season 8 of The Blacklist arrived on NBC on November 13th, 2020, several weeks later than originally expected thanks to Covid-19 filming delays.

Despite the slightly late arrival, The Blacklist has continued to enthral fans with its latest chapter pitting its two main characters against each other as Liz becomes determined to find out why Reddington entered her life and what his endgame plan really is.

The fallout could have devastating consequences but before we see what happens next, episode 21 took us back to the very beginning.

Titled Nachalo – Russian for Beginning – episode 21 sees Reddington take Liz to the mysterious epicentre of his criminal empire and through a captivating flashback storyline, their shared past is revealed.

Is The Blacklist new tonight on NBC? Are we going to see what’s next for Raymond Reddington and Liz Keen?

To answer the second question, we are … but that brings us back to the first. There is unfortunately no new episode of the series on the air tonight, with the reasoning for that being that the final installments have been moved to Wednesdays. Do we question that decision? Definitely, especially when you consider that this past episode [entitled “Nachalo”] was one of the lowest-rated of the entire series. We still feel like some viewers just weren’t aware that new episodes were on, and that ended up damaging the show severely.

Have you watched our latest theory on The Blacklist and what could be coming up next? Check that out at the bottom of this article! After you do that, our next advice is to SUBSCRIBE to Matt & Jess on YouTube — there are more updates ahead on the show moving forward, including a review for the finale. Don’t miss out…

Season 8 episode 22 [airing on Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. Eastern] is the final episode of the season, and it’s arguably the biggest one of the whole series. We could learn the identity of Raymond Reddington once and for all, but it comes at a heavy cost. The synopsis below gives you a solid sense of that:

06/23/2021 [10:00PM – 11:00PM] [Wednesday] : Reddington makes a disturbing request to Liz in exchange for the truth about his identity. TV-14

Could there be casualties along the way? Sure, but we’re hoping more that the season ends with Liz in a place where she can move forward and live a happy life. Remember that Megan Boone is poised to leave the series after the episode, so this needs to be a worthy swan song after what’s been a long and emotional journey.

If you haven’t seen the promo for this episode, entitled “Konets,” you can do that below.

Next week on The Blacklist season 8 episode 22, you are going to see a powerful finale entitled “Konets.” It also just so happens to be the final episode for Megan Boone as Elizabeth Keen.

As of just a couple of days ago, we had a very different impression as to what this story was going to be. While we imagined that we’d get a lot of information on the central arc of the story, we had no idea we’d be saying goodbye to a longtime lead. Now, we are facing a season 9 that Liz is not a part of, and that is going to be interesting to see develop over time. [This finale now has the added pressure of explaining what season 9 will look like for those who are a little unsure if they will watch.]

To get some more video discussion all about Megan Boone’s exit from the show, we suggest that you check that out below! Once you do, remember to subscribe to Matt & Jess on YouTube! That is where we post previews, reviews, and all sorts of other good stuff related to the series.

So what’s going to come up within the episode itself? Based on the synopsis below, it sounds like we could finally learn the truth about who Reddington really is:

06/23/2021 [10:00PM – 11:00PM] [Wednesday] : Reddington makes a disturbing request to Liz in exchange for the truth about his identity. TV-14

The truth of the matter here is that it’s going to be borderline impossible for The Blacklist to come up with a story that lives up to what a lot of the hype is. Everyone has their own theories about Reddington’s identity and have for some time. There are people who think he’s the real Reddington, and also those who think that he could be Katarina. Some think he’s some secret sibling.

We’re excited to see the truth revealed … but also sad that it’s coming at the expense of losing another character.
