4.0 out of 5 stars Good adapter however this DOES NOT support Hosted Networks

After looking around for a cheap WiFi adapter that supports Hosted Networks so that I can share my VPN connection with my other WiFi enabled devices, I was led to believe that Realtek RTL8188 would do the job. Alas, it seems this adapter does not support Hosted Networks. But this is nothing to do with the seller or manufacturer as they do not claim this to support Hosted Networks. The dongle itself will still come in useful.

The Wifi on my laptop got very flaky after upgrading to Windows 10 so I bought this as a cheap way to get it working again. After much messing around I couldn't get it working though so I contacted Plugable who got back within hours with some sensible non scripted suggestions and requested I used a tool they have to analyse the PCs logs etc. Once they had that they came straight back with the offer of a replacement which I could have got quickly from the UK or with a delay from the US so they could check it before posting. I chose the latter and on arrival, it worked first time.
OK, the first was faulty but this was support at its best, fast responsive and helpful.
The replacement works absolutely fine, no problems at all. being compact, I can leave it plugged in the USB port without worrying about it getting caught or breaking off. All in all, I'm very impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good wi-fi adapter

It's still early days, but I'm very pleased with this so far. After a clean install of Windows 10, my built-in wi-fi card wouldn't work. I took a punt on this, only half expecting any joy with it, but it's fine and has restored my notebook to wi-fi connectivity.

With Windows 10, it's dead simple because you just plug in and the drivers install automatically even if you're not connected to the internet. (I disabled my existing card first, by the way.) It didn't work properly first time out, but after a major Windows update, it's fine. Good speeds, very neat and unobtrusive (although it does flash red when in use) and just does the job.

I'll update if I have any problems, but I can recommend this – and for under a tenner, I think it's excellent value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good piece of kit

First, some facts. This is an "n" wifi, so do not get it if you want an "ac" one. On testing through several internal walls, I was getting 17Mbs download and 12 Mbs upload - not bad for the distance involved. Plug and play is simply - as mentioned by others, the seller forwards a link to get the latest drivers - click on this and install is a breeze, and when you first plug in the unit it installs in a few seconds. I've done it on W10 and W8.1

Why 4 not 5 stars? As has been commented elsewhere it can be VERY picky on what USB port it likes - on my 8.1 desktop I plugged it into a back usb where it was slightly shielded by the metal edge of the unit - speed was below 0.3Mbs. Moved it to a front usb - flew along.

All in all, very happy with it, especially at the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Small and unobtrusive, not exactly fast though.

First one that i got didn't work. However , the company very quickly replaced it for me. They were courteous and helped where they could.

It can sometimes be a bit flakey however, that might be the fact that is just a single and on the side of my computer.
