Stranger Things is a show available on the streaming platform Netflix. In July 2019, the show gained immense popularity on TikTok, due to the release of the third season. In May 2022, the show gained a resurgence of popularity due to the release of the fourth season.[note 1] Show History[] The picture of Alexei that was commonly used as a profile picture Following the release of the third season on July 4, 2019, the show gained extensive popularity on TikTok. Compilations of the videos on YouTube show a variety of videos, generally jokes about the season.[1] A picture of the character Alexei drinking a Slushee would get widely used as a profile picture by users, in what may now be referred to as a TikTok cult. On July 16, 2019, the user @..robinbuckley would post a video of Robin saying the line 'These ladies are hot, they're so very hot', with the song 'Wait a Minute!' by WILLOW as background music.[2] As of May 8, 2022, the remix has been used in 228.8K. A similar remix to the song would get created afterwards, differing from the original in that when Robin ends her line, a different song plays, tricking the viewer into something else than what they expected to show up.[3] Although the creation date is unknown, a remix of a clip (from season 2) of the character Erica saying 'god you are such a nerd' became popular during July 2019, having been used in 409.8K videos as of May 8, 2022.[4] An audio of the characters Erica and Robin talking, with Erica saying 'But if the human body doesn't get water, it will die' would go viral, with the creation of the audio dating back to at least December 2019.[5] Around August 2021, the TikTok account @owenreffett would start to post videos of them (or a friend) parodying the character Eleven.[6] Season 4[]Note: This section constitutes an ongoing event/trend, and may change and/or need to be updated On May 27, Volume 1 of the fourth season was released.[note 1] On March 22, 2022, the user @theaudi0hub posted a video of the song 'Neverending Story' sped up.[7] The audio of the video would later become used in a trend where users would show pictures of themselves when season three of the show released, to then show pictures of themselves when season four released/was about to release.[8] The song 'Running Up That Hill' by Kate Bush gained popularity, and became heavily associated with Stranger Things,[9] along with the song 'Pass the Dutchie' by Musical Youth. The former has been used in at least 2.4M,[10] 545.6K[11] and 159.8K[12] videos as of July 15, 2022, with the latter having been used in at least 462.3K,[13] 144.4K[14] and 15.5K[15] videos as of July 15, 2022. One trend used an audio clip of Robin saying 'Music, we need music', with Eddie replying 'This is music!', mainly by users who share their out-of-the-norm songs that they like. The audio has been used in 96.9K videos as of July 15, 2022.[16] Another audio included an audio clip of the characters Eleven and Angela, with Angela subtly bullying Eleven and her project revolving around her dad.
