Some issues may crop up if you don’t keep your software up-to-date, so it’s good to make sure you’re running the most recent versions. Below, we’ll show you how to check what versions you have installed on your devices, and see if newer versions are available.

1. On your Mac, open Things.
2. In the menu bar at the top of your screen, click Things → About Things.
3. Locate the version number, which looks something like Version 3.16 (31600000).

2. Locate the version number, which looks something like Version 13.

Check for a newer version of Things

Sometimes, a newer version of Things will become available. If you have Automatic Updates enabled, Things should update automatically, but you can also check manually:

1. On your Mac, open App Store.
2. In the left pane, click Updates.
3. On your keyboard, hit ⌘ Cmd R to refresh the list.
4. If a new version of Things is available, click Update and wait for it to download.

Sometimes, a newer version of Things will become available. Things on your Apple Watch will be automatically updated when Things is updated on your iPhone. If you have Automatic Updates enabled on your iPhone, this should happen automatically, but you can also check manually:

1. On your iPhone, open App Store.
2. In the top right corner, tap your photo/user icon.

Minimum Requirements

Please note that if your device is an older model, it might not be able to run a version of the Operating System that Things requires. As a result, you might not be able to purchase, install, or update to the latest version of Things. You can check Things’ minimum requirements here.

I've run into this situation a few times lately, where I go to install "free" Apple apps on older machines. Machines like a 2012 that can only run Catalina.

When you go to the App store and try to download, it gives you an error that Big Sur is requires. But that's not an option. Unlike on the iOS app store, the Mac app store does NOT then offer to install the last compatible version.

I was able to download a last compatible version through the purchase history in one instance, but in other instances, the apps had never been downloaded before so I was unable to get them downloaded this time.

Is there some trick to this?
