I've run into this situation a few times lately, where I go to install "free" Apple apps on older machines. Machines like a 2012 that can only run Catalina.

When you go to the App store and try to download, it gives you an error that Big Sur is requires. But that's not an option. Unlike on the iOS app store, the Mac app store does NOT then offer to install the last compatible version.

I was able to download a last compatible version through the purchase history in one instance, but in other instances, the apps had never been downloaded before so I was unable to get them downloaded this time.

Is there some trick to this?
